Find a New Best Friend
We do NOT adopt to homes in Southern California or out of state with the exception of the Reno/Tahoe area. Please see our Resources page for other California Labrador Retriever rescues. We update the list of available dogs as adoptions occur and as new dogs arrive, so please keep checking for the latest information. All dogs listed below are still available unless otherwise noted. If you would like to adopt from CCLRR, please go to the Adopt page to read about our adoption process. All dogs are tested prior to entering our program, however you will want to introduce your dog before adopting. Shelters do not test with cats and not all foster homes have cats so if a bio does not specifically say "Cat Friendly," we do not know and a proper introduction is recommended. Please check our Courtesy Postings as well!

At just 2 years old, Cooper embodies that wonderful, typical young Labrador joyful approach to everything. He is incredibly sweet, full of life, and ready for adventure.
Cooper comes from strong hunting lines, which means he is as smart as they come and learns fast. Whether he’s mastering a new command or figuring out a puzzle toy, his intelligence shines through. And true to his breed, Cooper absolutely loves to swim!
While he was unfortunately found as a stray in Stockton, CA, he is fully ready for his next chapter. Because he has that young-lab energy and a strong working drive, Cooper will thrive with an experienced dog owner who will commit to continuing his training and keeping his sharp mind busy.

Every princess deserves a happily ever after… could Tilly’s begin with you?
Her Cinderella Story: From overbreeding, neglect and abandonment to rescue, recovery and joy.
👑 Princess Tilly is looking for her fairy godmother.
-
Do you have a good skincare routine? So does Tilly.
-
Do you like good food and a meal prep plan? So does she.
-
Do you like your daily routine and quality beauty sleep? So does this pretty girl.
❤️Tilly is a super sweet medium sized (65 lbs) chocolate lab looking for a loving, quiet home where she can feel safe and protected. She can be shy with new people but warms up quickly with kind words and maybe a treat or ball throw. She LOVES playing ball! Once introduced, she is your best friend and loyal companion.
She is very affectionate and a great cuddler. She rides great in the car and loves adventures! She is not a big barker, she takes treats very gently, she will use a dog door if available and she did not display anxiety during a thunderstorm. Tilly does need a home where someone is with her most of the time because she doesn’t like being alone.
Tilly has allergies and will need sustained care to keep her coat healthy (special food, the occasional bath, ear cleanse, and supplements). She is a sweet, silly girl looking for her happily ever after with a family that can provide a loving, safe, stable home and she will repay you with love and affection twofold!

Meet Sadie, a beautiful 2-year-old Lab mix with a gentle heart, soulful eyes, and a personality that gets sweeter every day.
At 65 pounds, Sadie is the perfect combination of companion and couch buddy. She is sweet, affectionate and easygoing and loves spending time with her people and relaxing with her canine friends. While she may take a minute to size up a new person, she warms up quickly and soon decides you’re one of her favorite humans. Once she does, she’ll happily follow you from room to room just to be near you.
Sadie is discovering how wonderful life can be. Walks, toys, and treats are all becoming more exciting as her confidence grows, and her foster family has loved watching her playful side emerge. These days, she’s treating everyone to longer zoomies and more frequent bursts of happiness. She already knows sit, down, no and walks nicely on leash.
One of Sadie’s most unique features is her rare double dew claws, a trait sometimes found in working breeds. They don’t affect her mobility at all—they just make her extra special.
Sadie is the kind of dog who doesn’t ask for much—just a soft place to land, people to love, and a family to call her own. In return, she’ll give you loyal companionship and a constant shadow who always wants to be nearby.

Foster-To-Adopt
Meet Shasta, a sweet and sensitive 5-year-old Lab mix weighing in at a perfect 53 pounds. Shasta came to us from the Stockton shelter in rough shape. She was suffering from severe pneumonia and was also pregnant with a singleton puppy. Thanks to dedicated veterinary care, plenty of rest, and the love of her foster family, Shasta has made a remarkable recovery and is now healthy, happy, and ready to begin the next chapter of her life.
Because Shasta recently had her puppy, she is currently available through our Foster-to-Adopt program. Her adoption will be finalized once she is medically cleared to be spayed.
Shasta is a more reserved girl who takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, she is happiest simply being by your side. She is very affectionate. She’s the kind of dog who forms a deep bond with her person and loves being part of your daily life. She rides well in the car. She enjoys playing ball and will bring it back. She also loves stuffed toys (thought they rarely survive intact!)
Shasta prefers sleeping on the bed with her humans and enjoys a calm, predictable environment. She is not a fan of crates and would do best with a family that understands she prefers being part of the household rather than confined away from her people.
While she may do well with some dogs, Shasta is not a social butterfly and would likely appreciate slow introductions and a home that respects her need to settle in at her own pace.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will form a deep bond and be your constant sidekick, Shasta may be your perfect match.

Harry Potter
Male Black Lab Mix
3 Years
🚽 Housebroken
🐕 Dogs Unknown
🐱Cats Unknown
👧 Good with Kids

Some dogs are easy to love. Harry Potter is one of those dogs.
Everyone who meets HP becomes a fan. Neighbors adore him. Visitors love him. His foster family can’t say enough good things about him. Wherever he goes, Harry Potter seems to collect new friends.
At 3 years old and 73 pounds, Harry Potter is the definition of a gentle giant. We don’t know exactly what breed mix he is, but we do know he’s one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet.
Harry came to us from Kern County Animal Shelter after what was clearly a rough start in life. Whatever his past may have been, he hasn’t let it dim his loving spirit. Today, he’s focused on what matters most: being with his people. Whether you’re doing yard work, relaxing on the couch, running errands, or watching a movie, Harry is happiest right by your side. He loves car rides, enjoys spending time outdoors, and is always up for a game of ball—even if he’s still perfecting the “bring it back” part. He knows sit, down, come, and walks nicely on leash. He loves toys, treats and is great in the car.
Harry is calm, affectionate, and incredibly people-oriented. In the evenings, you’ll often find him resting beside you with his head in your lap, perfectly content just being close. He sleeps peacefully in his dog bed, is housebroken, and does well when left loose in the home.
Harry Potter isn’t looking for adventure or excitement. He’s looking for his person. Someone to share life’s ordinary moments with—the walks, the chores, the movie nights, and everything in between.
And if you’re lucky enough to meet him, don’t be surprised if you fall under his spell too.
