Find a New Best Friend
We do NOT adopt to homes in Southern California or out of state with the exception of the Reno/Tahoe area. Please see our Resources page for other California Labrador Retriever rescues. We update the list of available dogs as adoptions occur and as new dogs arrive, so please keep checking for the latest information. All dogs listed below are still available unless otherwise noted. If you would like to adopt from CCLRR, please go to the Adopt page to read about our adoption process. All dogs are tested prior to entering our program, however you will want to introduce your dog before adopting. Shelters do not test with cats and not all foster homes have cats so if a bio does not specifically say "Cat Friendly," we do not know and a proper introduction is recommended. Please check our Courtesy Postings as well!

Leo
Male Yellow Lab
2 Years
Adopt OR
Foster-To-Adopt

Leo is a very sweet boy with a calm, docile personality and those irresistible old-soul eyes. He’s housebroken, great with kids and does well with other dogs.
He knows sit, comes when called, and takes treats very gently. Leo is food-motivated, which makes training easy. He goes into his crate without hesitation and slept much better in it last night, so he may be used to crate sleeping.
Leo enjoys playing fetch, went on a light jog this morning (he’d make a great jogging partner!), and we’ve only heard him bark once or twice. We’re still working on car rides, but he’s improving.
If you’re looking for a sweet, easygoing Lab to foster or foster-to-adopt, Leo could be your guy.

Daisy
Female Yellow Lab
1-2 Years
🚽 Housebroken
🏡 Crate Trained
🐕 Good with Dogs
(with proper intro)
🐱Cats Unknown
👧 Good with Kids (older
recommended due to her size)

We are specifically looking for a foster-to-adopt home.
Serious foster-to-adopt inquiries only.
Daisy is a classic big yellow 1-2 year old female Labrador Retriever probably from American hunting lines. Don’t let this gorgeous girl’s size fool you… at nearly 80 pounds and still growing she is definitely more puppy than adult! Daisy is enthusiastic and funny as she learns to walk nicely on-leash, do structured retrieves, and play with squeaky toys. She is well started on obedience and knows wait, break, heel, come, leave-it, down and sit. She’s happiest when she’s close to her people, and is friendly with other dogs, also great with kids. She loves water in all its forms from running around in sprinklers, playing with hose, and swimming beautifully in pool, lake or ocean.
Daisy still has some typical puppy behaviors that she is working on such as mouthiness and some attraction to flip flops… she is well along in impulse control and has learned nose touch instead of using mouth, also leave it. She has good house manners, is solid on potty training, and will thrive in an experienced dog home that can confidently maintain structure, boundaries, and continued training. She sleeps in crate at night and has been left outside for 2-3 hours.
Daisy still needs to be spayed, and we want to avoid moving her multiple times, as transitions can be hard on pups. She is ready to go to Foster to Adopt and will be able to have her surgery once her next placement is set.

Aster
Female Black Lab Mix
2 Years
🚽 Housebroken
🏡 Crate Training In Progress
🐕 Dog Selective
👧 Good with Kids Age 7+
🐱 NO Cats

Meet Aster, a beautiful 2-year-old black Lab mix weighing 66lbs. She came to us from Kern County Animal Services and is currently fostered in Sacramento while she waits for her forever home.
Aster is the kind of dog who makes life feel peaceful at home, but brings a little comedy and enthusiasm to her daily adventures. She has calm, polite house manners and is truly a joy to live with. Gentle, attentive, and eager to please, she’s a classic companion dog.
Aster walks well on leash and enjoys her daily walks. She knows sit, down and drop it. She is very interested in squirrels on her walk. She has played nicely with a neighbor’s puppy and does ok on walks with other dogs who approach appropriately. Because of this fact, she would benefit from a confident handler and continued positive leash work. Aster also enjoys water and is wonderfully polite at mealtimes — she waits at your feet and has excellent food manners.
In the home, she is soft, respectful when greeting people, and very responsive to gentle correction. She is approved for children age 7+. She clearly wants to do the right thing and thrives with guidance and consistency.
Aster would do best with an active adopter who appreciates her enthusiasm outdoors and her calm, loving presence indoors. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with personality, brains, and a little squirrel patrol spirit, Aster may be your girl.

🐱NO Small Animals
🚗Rides Well In Car
From Kern County

Meet adorable Blossom!
Blossom is a sweet, playful, fun-loving 1+ year-old female Black Lab mix who’s ready to find her very own forever family. She’s a happy, affectionate girl who loves to please her humans and already has advanced obedience skills—making her a dream on leash walks. She’s wicked smart and thrives on brain games and learning new tricks. Bonus: she rides great in the car and loves going on adventures with her people.
Blossom knows “sit,” “down,” “stay,” and “come,” and enjoys activities that keep her mind busy—like “find it,” “look at me,” and food puzzles. She’s incredibly gentle when taking treats and will politely insist on head pets to remind you she’s your #1 girl. She has excellent house manners (no counter surfing), listens well, and settles quietly beside you while you work or relax. She’s also an amazing sleeper and patiently waits for you in the morning.
She’s a total outing pro—whether it’s the downtown market, lunch dates, hikes, or games of fetch and tug. Blossom is a social butterfly who loves meeting new people. When she first came to us, she had lots of excited puppy energy (happy hops!) but she’s learned great self-control and responds beautifully to structure, praise, and routine. She’ll thrive in a home that offers consistency, love, and fun adventures. She bonds deeply and will be an incredibly loyal companion.
Blossom does have a high prey drive for squirrels, so a home without small animals is best. If you’ve been searching for a loyal, fun, and endlessly loving best friend… Blossom is your girl

Waffles
Female
Central Asian Shepherd
8 Months
🚽 Housebroken
🏡 Crate Trained
🐕 Good with Dogs
🐱Good with Cats
👧 Good with Kids 12+

Meet Waffles (formerly Yeti)!
Waffles is a stunning young girl with an incredibly loving, gentle soul. She came to us at about 4 months old looking like a big ol’ Lab puppy and was believed to be a Lab/guardian mix. She was adopted quickly by a family who truly fell in love with her. However, when her DNA results came back showing she is a pure Central Asian Shepherd, they realized they weren’t prepared for the unique needs of a true livestock guardian breed and made the difficult decision to return her.
Waffles is a gentle giant in the making (currently about 80 lbs.) who would thrive with a family that has some space for her to stretch her legs and run. While livestock is not required, it would certainly be a bonus for this guardian girl. She will do well in a home where she can spend time both indoors with her people and outdoors keeping watch over her space.
Despite her guardian heritage, she is incredibly sweet with everyone she meets and happily melts into belly rubs and affection. She does well with other dogs and was great with her foster’s cats—often trying to cozy up to them or get them to play.
She is housebroken, crate trained, and walks well on leash, making her a great candidate for continued training and structure. Like any 8-month-old puppy, she is still learning and will test boundaries, so she needs a dog-savvy home that understands large breeds and is committed to her ongoing development.
And while she may be a livestock guardian by breed, she kept one very Lab-like trait—she absolutely loves water! If there’s a kiddie pool nearby, Waffles will happily splash around and enjoy herself. A pool would be a nice bonus for her!
Waffles is truly special and will be an amazing addition to the right home that appreciates her breed, size, and loyal heart. If you’re looking for a devoted guardian with a soft, loving side, Waffles may be your girl
