Find a New Best Friend
We update the list of available dogs as adoptions occur and as new dogs arrive, so please keep checking for the latest information. All dogs listed below are still available unless otherwise noted. If you would like to adopt from CCLRR, please go to the Adopt page to read about our adoption process. All dogs are tested prior to entering our program, however you will want to introduce your dog before adopting. Shelters do not test with cats and not all foster homes have cats so if a bio does not specifically say "Cat Friendly," we do not know and a proper introduction is recommended. Please check our Courtesy Postings as well!

Roger - Yellow Male - 2 Years
Meet Roger. He's approximately 2 years old and a yellow lab mix. He's malnourished and has not had the best life. He needs to gain a little weight and have a comfy cozy place to lay his head. His current foster says he’s great with other dogs, very good in the crate, great with kids. So far, no accidents in the house. He has been neglected of human affection and attention. Roger will need someone that is willing to work on training such as leash work, common commands like sit, off and wait. He is a young happy guy who is excited about his new life. We suggest older kids because he does jump up in excitement. He’s a good boy and just needs a chance to be fabulous!. He LOVES other dogs and hasn’t bothered any other cats since Canelo gave him the what for. 😁 Roger doesn't know anything about cats so he's going off instinct but once he's shown - he's good! Our yard will be squirrel free though because he still wants to chase those.😊 Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Bear - Black Male - 3 Years
Bear is a good natured, silly, medium sized Lab mix. Despite having been found as a stray wandering a light industrial area of Bakersfield CA, he clearly was someone’s companion. He is crate trained (sleeps overnight in a locked crate and has been left alone in the crate for up to two hours); housebroken; knows six commands (sit, lie down, wait(!),load up, show me your belly, and go to bed); presents for harnessing before walks and quietly cooperates with bathing. Bear lives to be with people; he immediately attached to his fosters, and though new to the house was content to go for walks, ride in cars, or just hang out with whoever’s in his orbit but prefers to be the only dog. Bear needs some help with his leash manners, and because he’s a very strong young boy dog, needs someone with a firm grasp of the lead to help him learn to ease up and be polite on walks. He has been exposed to five indoor and four outdoor cats, has had no direct contact with the indoor cats, but has tried to chase the outdoor cats when he sees them. Although he’s not had any contact with kids as yet, based on the way he tolerates being touched by adults he will likely be as gentle with them as he is with the grown-ups. Bear would do brilliantly as an only pet in a home with people who can spend lot of time with him. Call or text Cathy 925.303.0509

Angus - Black Male - 10 Months
Puppy
Angus is approximately 10 months old. He loves playing with toys and enjoys playing with other dogs. His favorite game is tug-o-war. He is housebroken. He likes being around humans and enjoys a good belly rub. Angus loves water and will jump and play when the sprinkler comes on and will position himself to get wet whenever the hose is spraying. He loves eating and is food-motivated. He sleeps through the night without crying now. I placed his bed in my bathroom, and he goes there at night to sleep voluntarily. He likes to have a clothing item from his human to sleep with. He still is a little shy in new situations.

Junebug - Yellow Female - 4 Years
Junebug AKA Junie, is an approximately 4 year old adorable yellow female who came in to the Oakdale Shelter as a stray. Her history is unknown, but she gets a long with other dogs and she’s learning to behave with her resident foster cats. She is quite the character and thrives off of human interaction. Junebug just wants to be loved on. Doesn't bark outside, is crate trained, loves going for walks and playing with foster sister, Truffle (also available for adoption) but it’s apparent she doesn’t really know any commands and needs house training work. She will be a lovely companion once she figures out she’s not the boss and settles in to a routine. She’s already starting to go with the flow at her fosters house. She is currently on a diet to loose some weight. Once at a healthy weight she will be the perfect size English type Labrador. Contact Erika to meet her text 916-765-8573

Cotton - Yellow Male, 1 Year
UPDATE: Cotton is a 1.5 yr old Akbash (live stock guarding dog) 105 lbs, with maybe a smidge of Lab but probably not. This means he’s a pretty independent boy, needs a large yard to patrol and will be happiest with another dog who will play with him. Cotton is still a puppy, a big puppy. He’s goofy, loves tug of war, to be chased and will try and lay in your lap. He doesn't have the energy of a lab and is happy with short walks where we include training and many sniff breaks. He’s a pleasure to walk on leash but can be reactive to other dogs. We continue to work on this behavior. Cotton has many dog friends and goes to day play and train at Canine Purpose in Loomis. Lab Rescue will pay for Cotton and adopter to have 5 days of training at Canine Purpose. Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Maggie - Fox Red Female - 7 Years
SPECIAL NEEDS $250
Maggie is a sweet 7 year old fox red female Lab. She is on the smaller side; weighs about 48 lbs, loves belly rubs and just hanging out with you. Maggie is energetic and excited to go for short walks, swimming, playing with toys and greeting you when you come home. She also enjoys chilling out and taking naps during the day. She has an old knee injury, but that doesn’t get in the way of walking or swimming after a ball. Maggie is a dream on a leash, with no pulling whatsoever. She can be left home alone, sleeps through the night and is house trained. She barks when she is excited and hears something or needs to go out. Maggie was an owner-surrender due to the owner’s health limitations. She is looking for her forever family. She would do best in a calm home setting and be the only dog in the home with folks who just want a wonderful girl to hang out with. Call or text Sally 916.761.2007

Ozzy - Yellow Male - 2 Years
Meet Ozzy aka The Ozzfest – a handsome young male 87-pound English-style Labrador. At 2 years old, he is a classic yellow boy with lots of goofy puppy energy. Ozzy is excited to join in with whatever fun game is available, from solo play with squeaky toys to happily retrieving a ball for you. His cheerful friendly approach to life is a joy to share. Ozzy has a very loving temperament and thrives on attention from his people and dog friends. We have provided professional training for Ozzy to help him learn better house manners and how to tone down rowdy play with other dogs as well as his people. He is very smart, has excellent recall, great leash walking skills, and he is very good at sitting on command. Ozzy is still in learning mode however, so whoever adopts him will receive one professional session from Harmony Family Dog Training to continue his success. Ozzy is solid on potty training and sleeps on a dog bed in foster’s room. He probably would not do well in a home with cats. Adopters must have a large, secure yard and not be gone at work all day, but will be able to leave him for a few hours. A family with older children would be a dream come true for Ozzy. He is an outstanding, gorgeous guy and will be a great addition to a dog-loving home! Contact Carolyn 916.768.7737

Princess - Black Female - 1.5 Years
This 1.5 year old beautiful black female has the shiniest coat! She weighs approximately 78lbs and could lose a little weight. We’re working on that now that she no longer lives in a kennel and can run and play any time she wants to. Princess is timid with people. She’s not sure what you want her to do. She loves toys and is loving not having her mother take them away from her! Now when someone throws a ball, she can actually get it! Her mother used to get to the ball first and/or take any toy that was tossed to Princess. She is housebroken, knows how to use a dog door and will sleep in crate if you can lure her inside. She is not a fan of car rides, but we are hoping to change that with trips to McDonald’s for a burger (in conflict with diet, but hey it’s for the greater good and a girls got to eat. 😂) and fun outings to parks, pools and hikes. Princess needs a slow introduction to things that we think of as normal for our dogs. She really hasn't experienced much, so many things can be scary for her. UPDATE: Princess is a sweetheart and is starting to enjoy the puppyhood she missed out on while living in a kennel. She’s discovering toys and other items she thinks are fun! She easily drops whatever she has. She is good at finding fun things at her level. Things her foster may have not thought to put up higher! Things like ping pong balls, baseball hats, flip flops….super fun stuff to grab and carry around! Only a couple of tooth marks in the ball cap brim. Not bad!! Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Izzie is a 4 month old female, black retriever mix. She came from the Merced Animal Shelter. Izzie loves to be with her people and is great with other dogs and cats. She is also good with kids. Izzie is learning to walk on a leash and getting potty trained. She likes to play ball and cuddle on the couch. Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Daphne - Yellow Female - 6 Years
Daphne is a wonderful 6ish-year old with the classic joyful disposition you’d expect of a Labrador retriever. She smiles with her whole face and shows her zest for life by wagging her entire body! Daphne came to us from a shelter in Bakersfield and her backstory is unknown. She was comfortable in her foster home immediately and is well behaved. She's got good energy but is also happy to just follow you around the house and take naps. Daphne is fully housebroken and can be left alone for several hours. She does occasionally enjoy stealing laundry from the basket and carrying it around the house! Daphne has excellent leash manners until she sees another human or dog in the distance, at which time she does pull. She will be working with a trainer on this and we anticipate that, given how quickly she learned commands like sit, out and wait, she will improve in this regard. She had a short temporary stay with a foster family who had other animals and she did display some guarding behavior with toys and treats around the fosters dog. Daphne is the happiest of girls! She rarely barks. She sleeps soundly all night long on a mat at the foot of the bed. She is eager to learn and to please and is looking forward to being someone's best girl! At this time she would do best in a home as an only dog so she can spread her loves and kisses to every human in the house! She is currently undergoing medical treatment for kennel cough and will also be having surgery to be spayed and will be available soon. Please call or text Cathy 925.303.0509 10/8/24

Cooper - Black Male - 14 Weeks
Puppy
Cooper is a wonderful 14 week old puppy. He was momentarily shy upon arrival and may be timid at first with new visitors, but he warms up quickly and has settled into his new foster home in no time. He plays well with kids, loves fetch, gets along well with other dogs, and has politely kept his distance from our cat. He sleeps all night in a crate and seems housetrained, and is working on the usual obedience commands. Cooper is mellow in the house and loves to nap on a comfy dog bed. He loves cuddles and belly rubs from his human friends. Cooper is curious about the world and is taking new experiences (like meeting the vacuum cleaner) in stride. Like any young puppy he will need some training, but Cooper will be a great addition for any family looking for a canine companion. Contact Erin 707.495.1373 10/10/24

Truffle - Yellow Female - 5 Years
Truffle is an approximately 5year old Lab/Great Pyrenees mix. She favors the Great Pyrenees in looks and demeanor, but is a smaller build like a Lab (59lbs but at least 10lbs underweight). She is a very sweet girl! Timid at first, but warms up within 3-4 days. She is quiet in the house, crate trained and rides well in the car. She likes chew toys, sniff walks and a cozy place to rest. I have not heard her bark once. She loves children and aside from a little exuberance in the morning, she is not a jumper. She will need a home with a female primary caretaker and a gentle male who will allow her time to warm up. Within a week she will accept pets and treats from her foster dad if he’s sitting, but she keeps her distance if he approaches standing. She is happy around other dogs, large and small and does not react to cats. In fact, during the day she will lay in her crate with the door open and the resident cats feel comfortable to lay with her. Contact Erika via text 916.765.8573

Bronzie - Silver/Chocolate Female - 6 Years
Bronzie is a 6 yr old silver/chocolate female. She weighs approximately 78lbs. Bronzie has had many puppies over her life and is now looking for a relaxing home-life where it’s mostly about her! She loves to fetch and is up for a game any time. Bronzie does ok in a car. She’s really not sure about the whole thing, but we believe after a few trips to some fun destinations she’ll get the hang of it. She is housebroken, uses a dog door, loves to be petted and loves food! Bronzie could lose a few pounds. Now that she’s no longer living in a kennel, she should burn some extra calories running around whenever she wants. Bronzie knows sit, but could definitely use some help learning to walk on leash. A basic training class would be perfect for her. Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

River - Yellow Male - 1.5 - 2 Years
Adopt Adorable River! River came to us from the Kern Co shelter. He was very thin, but after just one week with his foster family, he has already put on some weight and his appetite is great. River should weigh about 50-55lbs. He is a quiet boy who wants to be near you. Belly rubs are his favorite. He’s happy to lay next to you while you work or watch TV, but he is also enjoying his walks. He sleeps on his dog bed, is house trained and is learning it’s ok to have fun. He gets so excited if you get excited and toss toys for him. He wasn't sure what to do with them at first, but is quickly getting the hang of it and sometimes even brings them back to you. A porcupine is his favorite toy so far! He rides quietly in the car and is very excited to meet other dogs. Contact Simona for more info 530.400.1174 or sghetti@ucdavis.edu 10/3/24

Loretta - Chocolate Female - 8 Years
Sweet Loretta is the Labrador version of Mary Poppins....she's "Practically Perfect in Every Way!" Loretta is the ideal family dog. She gets along well with everyone and has adjusted seamlessly in her foster home. She is housebroken, kennel trained, cat friendly, adores children, and gets along beautifully with other dogs including her foster's two labs. Loretta knows all the basic commands and has excellent manners. She is not high energy, but still has a lot of playful get-up-and-go in her. Loretta is a very happy-go-lucky girl who loves rolling in the grass, basking in the sun, riding in the car, naps, easy walks, and she wouldn't be opposed to snuggling on the sofa with her favorite human if invited up! If you have room in your heart and your home, you can't go wrong with this girl! Contact Kristin Vieira 209.559.2082
