Find a New Best Friend

We update the list of available dogs as adoptions occur and as new dogs arrive, so please keep checking for the latest information.  All dogs listed below are still available unless otherwise noted.  If you would like to adopt from CCLRR, please go to the Adopt page to read about our adoption process. All dogs are tested prior to entering our program, however you will want to introduce your dog before adopting. Shelters do not test with cats and not all foster homes have cats so if a bio does not specifically say "Cat Friendly," we do not know and a proper introduction is recommended. Please check our Courtesy Postings as well!

Lola
Yellow Female
9 Years
  • Housebroken

  • Rides well in car

  • Crate Trained

  • Good with kids

  • No cats

  • Calm respectful dogs only

Lola is a gorgeous smaller English-style yellow lab female who, at age 9, is funny, athletic and happy to explore new things with her humans.  She has perfect house manners, no jumping up, accidents, chewing or counter surfing.  Lola will be a perfect companion for a family looking for typical silly, sweet Labrador disposition.  Like many labs she does not do cats, and enjoys chasing after squirrels and other critters in backyard.  Everything is new to Lola and while she always craves human attention, she is continuing to learn to enjoy being with other dogs.  She has become fond of her 2 lab foster brothers after just a few days, and does prefer to be the #1 center of attention!  Lola recently had a wonderful experience an extremely crowded SPCA event where she gladly allowed one and all to shower her with pets!  She was just a little snarky with a couple of dogs who ran up into her face, rightly so, and she was able to ignore most pesky canines who did not have as good manners. Lola will be okay with nice friendly dogs as long as she has a decent amount of time to get to know them. A few hours to a day. I'll be writing up an overview on this but the main thing to look out for is narrow doorways which may make Lola nervous when she's sharing with another new dog initially. It took her a couple of days to get over going out a narrow pathway/door to our back porch with the other dogs. But now she's just fine and she said be able to transfer that skill to the next new dog without too much trouble. The main thing is just to watch out for that potential problem in the narrow doorway or hall etc and be ready to correct her if she gets snarky. That builds her confidence that she doesn't need to worry since the human is saying it's okay). Lola knows wait at threshold, sit, down, is working on stay and walks nicely on a leash (loves to work for food!). Lola is so smart and learns more on every one of her walks. She really enjoys outdoor adventures, and loves to jump in the car for rides (does great!). She sleeps happily in a crate all night as long as the other dogs are also crated, and she will be also just fine overnight on her dog bed. She is super friendly with all humans, and has met two kids (6 & 8), was happy, wagging her tail and didn’t want them to leave. Lola is a trustworthy, beautiful, sweet girl who loves rolls in the grass, pets, belly rubs, and cuddles on the couch. She is looking for that special family who will make her part of their loving pack. Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Max
White Male
9 Years
  • Housebroken

  • Uses Dog Door

  • Good with kids

  • Ok with cats

Max is a 9-year-old light yellow lab with the softest fur, you can’t help but want to hug and pet him all the time and he will let you! He is a sweet gentle boy and full of love and especially loves belly rubs and just spending time with his people. Any person he comes in to contact with he immediately goes for some rubs. He loves all people, but kids seem to be his favorite and you
can even catch him smiling as he takes in all the love, hugs, cuddles and belly rubs they give him. Max is housetrained and uses a dog door. He can be trusted in the house on his own and has been left alone no longer than 6 hours. He does not get on the furniture but will jump in bed with you once he understands it is ok. It may take him a few days to be sure he has permission to do so. He sleeps on his side of the bed and when it’s time to wake up he’ll wait patiently for his morning belly rubs. He also enjoys laying in a dog bed or just on the floor, as long as he is with his people that’s all that matters. When left alone he will howl and bark, but not for very long. Max travels very well in a car, he just lays down while traveling. Max walks easy on a leash and loves going for regular walks. He can handle about a 20-minute walk at a time before he gets worn out but enjoys multiple walks throughout the day. He was not socialized much in his previous home and can be reactive to other dogs on leash if they bark or growl at him. Max prefers well-mannered, easy-going dogs and had a positive interaction with a female chocolate lab. Max is good with a house cat but will pull towards a cat if he sees one while out on a walk. When he sees people, he will pull with all his might to go get PETS and HUGS!! When people approach him, he is kind and loves all the attention he can get. Max is very easy going and just enjoys being by your side. He is a very sweet boy and may thrive best in a home with kids or with people who are mostly home. He grew up with his sister, Lola, and may do well with another female dog in the home. If you’re interested his sister is available for adoption too! Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Bruce
Black Male
3 Years

Meet Bruce – an 85 pound 3-year-old outgoing male Lab/Shepard mix. Great with kids; previously lived with 2 toddlers and was very gentle with them. Good with all kinds of dogs, even the small ones; not tested with cats. Even though he is an active dog, Bruce has a very chill attitude. He can play hard then come indoors and lay at your feet. He can be touched everywhere without complaint and rides well in a car. No issues with food or behavior. Not much of a barker; he will alert you to a stranger’s presence then greet them like an old friend. Bruce is crate trained and isn’t sure what to do with a dog bed. He has followed my own dog through the dog door, but has not used it on his own. To be fair, I haven’t taken the time to train him either. Knows some commands; very willing, wants to please. Walks well on a leash but will pull when allowed to sniff. As with most large dogs, ongoing training is a must. When it comes to food, he favors his shepherd side – he likes treats, but not much of a foodie. Bruce is the perfect blend of playful energy and laid-back attitude. He’ll need a yard large enough for him to run and plenty of playtime but will do well in most situations. Bruce is looking forward to meeting you! Contact Norma 510.303.0437.

Lulu
Yellow Female
5 Years
  • Housebroken

  • Good with kids

  • Not good with cats

Lulu is a beautiful yellow female who is approximately 5 years old. After being a breeder dog for years, Lulu would probably prefer to be an only dog and have the humans all to herself. She was surrendered to a shelter with a couple of her pups that were adopted out to great homes. Lulu is now looking for her forever home. She is still settling in to her fosters home after being in the shelter and is a little unsure, but with time and consistency she will build trust and be a great addition to a family. She is getting a long with her Labrador foster siblings and loves kids. Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Lyndy
Yellow Female
6 Years
  • Housebroken

  • Good with other dogs

  • Needs another confident dog to play with

Lyndy is a 6-year old female lab. She’s an extremely sweet girl, very relaxed and easy to be around, but always ready for a walk, a ride in the car or a fun game of fetch.  She’s very lean and agile. She walks nicely on a leash, although the ground squirrels sometimes distract her, and she takes treats gently. She is great with other dogs and plays well with them. She retrieves AND drops the toy for you to throw it again. Lyndy has no issues around food or toys. She knows basic commands, and catches on quickly. Like most labs, she likes being around her people and loves being pet. I have yet to hear her bark. It took her a while to figure out that the dog beds are for her, so I don’t know how much time she spent inside, but her house manners are great and she is housebroken.  Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Pearl
Black Female
10 Months

Pearl is a sweet and affectionate 10 month old female spayed black lab mix who is eager to find her forever home after a rough start in life. She and her siblings were dumped in a parking lot and we are not sure what her life was like before. The vet thinks when Pearl is done growing, she won’t be very big. She currently weighs 56 pounds. Pearl would thrive in a home with a confident, playful dog to help her learn the ropes. She enjoys exploring in the backyard and loves to play chase and tug of war with her foster siblings. Pearl is not aggressive to cats, but can’t understand why her barks and play bows don’t entice them to play with her. In her foster homes, she has lived with various dogs and cats, adults, and a teenager. She loves everyone but needs reassurance when meeting new people. She can be timid in new situations. She loves to sleep with her humans but is crate trained and will sleep in the crate through the night. She is potty trained and will let you know when she needs to go out. She enjoys walks and is refining her leash skills and we think she would be a great running partner. She rides in a car well with her foster siblings. She has learned to sit before she comes in the house and at meal time. Pearl promises to repay her forever family with years of cuddling and loyalty for helping her learn what she needs to know to be the best companion possible. Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Roscoe
Yellow Male
7 Years
  • Housebroken

  • Good with other dogs

  • Rides well in car

We want to introduce you to Roscoe, a happy 7 year old yellow lab. Unfortunately until very recently Roscoe lived outside. He is recovering from double ear infections and inflamed skin in between his toes and body. Roscoe is much more comfortable now since having foot soaks (who doesn't love a pedicure) and some medicated baths. He’s living in luxury, as he should. 🐾

He is happy and super sweet, not an aggressive bone in his body and he gets along great with his foster brother, who is a 6 year old male lab. He is a big boy, at 85 lbs. and as you can imagine, has no idea of his size. If he had his way, he would lay on you, just to be close to you! He knows basic commands, walks well on a leash and will go into a crate if you want him to. He responds well to other cues, like off and down and with a little work will master all commands. He also rides great in a car and is not a barker. Just a happy boy who wants to be loved and be with you. Take a chance with this sweet guy and give him the home he deserves! You won’t regret it. Amara
Black Female
2 Years
  • House trained

Meet Adorable Amara!  Amara is a beautiful, sweet and playful 2 year-old black lab who came to our rescue neglected and sick with kennel cough. She is now healthy and ready for her forever family. Amara just learned to fetch, and she absolutely loves it! She is mostly housebroken, has very nice indoor manners (no counter surfing, etc.), knows “sit” and “come” and is eager to learn! She is a little shy at first, but will nap next to you once she feels comfortable. She is very smart and curious, loves to go on walks and sniff everything and is working on her leash manners and excitement when she sees new dogs. Off leash, she is great and has no aggression issues at all. She will thrive with families that can give her the structure she needs and who have active lives. Contact Simona (530) 400-1174. 4/6/25

Kirk
Black Male
8 Months

Kirk is a 35 pound, 8 month old black lab mix who had a tough life before making his way to CCLRR. He has evidence of both neglect and trauma. His wrists are over-extended and his front paws appear very long, which suggests very poor nutrition during his fast growing puppyhood. He also presented to the shelter with a left rear leg fracture. He is on the mend but his bones are knitting together a little wonky and he may experience arthritis earlier in life than if he had not experienced neglect early on. Despite all this, Kirk is a friendly, sweet, engaging young boy. He’s a little cautious in new situations, but is forever hopeful that the world is a kind, loving place. He is housebroken, crate-trained and has a gentle mouth. He is curious and respectful of cats. What Kirk really, really loves is people… he wants to be close, he wants to please, he checks in frequently and relishes attention. He plays well with his foster sister and has learned to love a good chew bone. He’s learning how to walk on a leash and a few commands. Kirk will be a great buddy to go anywhere and everywhere with you. Contact Chava (916) 296-6644  4/1/25
