Please see our Resources page for other California Labrador Retriever rescues.We update the list of available dogs as adoptions occur and as new dogs arrive, so please keep checking for the latest information. All dogs listed below are still available unless otherwise noted. If you would like to adopt from CCLRR, please go to the Adopt page to read about our adoption process. All dogs are tested prior to entering our program, however you will want to introduce your dog before adopting. Shelters do not test with cats and not all foster homes have cats so if a bio does not specifically say "Cat Friendly," we do not know and a proper introduction is recommended. Please check our Courtesy Postings as well!

Meet Sweet Scout

Scout made her way to the Sacramento area from Mexico and has quickly stolen the hearts of her foster family. She is a gentle, loving girl who does well with other dogs and seems to naturally match the energy of the dogs around her.

Scout loves treats and is eager to learn! She already knows sit and is getting pretty good at down and stay—especially when treats are involved. She does occasionally give little puppy-style love bites when she gets excited, so a home with older children would likely be the best fit.

It doesn’t appear that Scout had much, if any, experience walking on a leash before coming into foster care. At first she wouldn’t move at all, but she has made amazing progress and now loves going for walks! She’ll benefit from continued leash training, but she’s proving to be a quick learner.

Scout sleeps quietly in her crate at night and is housebroken. After just a couple of accidents on her first day, she figured out the dog door and hasn’t had another accident since. She also loves the water, although she prefers splashing around where her feet can still touch the bottom rather than swimming.

Scout is sweet, smart, gentle and eager to please. Her foster family absolutely loves her, and we know her forever family is going to feel incredibly lucky to have this special girl.

Meet Shelby, a beautiful 1-year-old Lab mix weighing about 45 pounds. She’s likely close to her full-grown size, making her the perfect fit for a family looking for a smaller Labrador mix.

Shelby’s story before rescue is largely a mystery. We know she lived with her littermates until she was flown to California. Imagine how overwhelming that must have been—a long car ride to the airport, a plane ride away from everything she knew, another car ride, and finally a completely unfamiliar home. Needless to say, Shelby arrived scared and unsure of what to expect.

But underneath that uncertainty is a wonderful young dog just waiting for someone to believe in her. Once Shelby gets past her initial fearfulness, she becomes a loyal and delightful companion. If you’re one of her people, you’re definitely one of her favorites! She loves other dogs, enjoys treats and chew bones, and is even learning a few retrieves. She walks nicely on leash and has beautiful house manners when provided appropriate toys and things to chew.

Shelby still has a few puppy habits and can sometimes play a little rough, so she may enjoy being the princess of the household where she doesn’t have to compete for attention. She can spend a few hours in a crate if needed but prefers sleeping comfortably on a dog bed at night.

What Shelby needs most isn’t perfection—it’s patience. Someone willing to let her move at her own pace, earn her trust, and discover just how special she really is. We think she’s absolutely worth it. ❤️

Looking for a fun-loving best friend who’s equal parts goofy, smart, and cuddly? Meet Murphy, a 3 to 4-month-old, 22-pound Black Lab mix with a heart full of love and a playful spirit that will keep you smiling!

Murphy is an affectionate, intelligent puppy who’s eager to learn and loves being with his people. His favorite pastime? Collecting toys! He’s determined to carry as many as possible at once, and his current record is an impressive three toys!

This handsome boy is already showing off his brains. He knows sit, down, and touch, is working on stay, and is making excellent progress with potty training. Murphy often lets you know it’s time to go outside by sitting at the door. At night, he settles nicely in his crate and sleeps soundly, though during the day he’d much rather be by your side.

Murphy is also a wonderful little travel companion. He rides great in the car, usually curling up for a nap in his crate along the way. While vacuums and lawnmowers are still new experiences, he approaches them with curiosity rather than fear.

He’s doing well learning to live with cats and is easily redirected if he gets a little too interested in making new feline friends. Murphy has also enjoyed spending time with children, though like any young puppy, he’s still learning that not everything is a chew toy!

Meet Jep!

He is a very sweet, lovable, and calm dog. A true gentle giant. At about 92 lbs, he is social and friendly with people, great with children and other dogs.

*Dog Friendly Superstar. One of his star qualities is that he gets along great with other dogs. He adjusts his play to suit various friends and ignores reactive dogs. He is also social and friendly with new people he meets which means he is a dog you can take anywhere.

*Social and Friendly. Everyone who has met Jep, has fallen in love with him because of his calm, sweet demeanor. He is a great walking/hiking buddy and does excellent with the leash. He LOVES to go for walks.

*Fun-Loving Goofball. Jep enjoys playing, earning snacks, doing puzzles and just having a good time. He entertains himself indoors with toys and chews. When finished with that, he finds a cozy spot to cuddle up for rests.

*Knows How to Relax. Jep likes to party, but he's happy to relax too. After a little fun with friends, he's ready to find a comfy spot to lay down and chew on a dog toy.

Some dogs are easy to love. Harry Potter is one of those dogs.

Everyone who meets HP becomes a fan. Neighbors adore him. Visitors love him. His foster family can’t say enough good things about him. Wherever he goes, Harry Potter seems to collect new friends.

At 3 years old and 73 pounds, Harry Potter is the definition of a gentle giant. We don’t know exactly what breed mix he is, but we do know he’s one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet.

Harry came to us from Kern County Animal Shelter after what was clearly a rough start in life. Whatever his past may have been, he hasn’t let it dim his loving spirit. Today, he’s focused on what matters most: being with his people. Whether you’re doing yard work, relaxing on the couch, running errands, or watching a movie, Harry is happiest right by your side. He loves car rides, enjoys spending time outdoors, and is always up for a game of ball—even if he’s still perfecting the “bring it back” part. He knows sit, down, come, and walks nicely on leash. He loves toys, treats and is great in the car.

Harry is calm, affectionate, and incredibly people-oriented. In the evenings, you’ll often find him resting beside you with his head in your lap, perfectly content just being close. He sleeps peacefully in his dog bed, is housebroken, and does well when left loose in the home.

Harry Potter isn’t looking for adventure or excitement. He’s looking for his person. Someone to share life’s ordinary moments with—the walks, the chores, the movie nights, and everything in between. And if you’re lucky enough to meet him, don’t be surprised if you fall under his spell too.

Foster-To-Adopt

Meet Shasta, a sweet and sensitive 5-year-old Lab mix weighing in at a perfect 53 pounds. Shasta came to us from the Stockton shelter in rough shape. She was suffering from severe pneumonia and was also pregnant with a singleton puppy. Thanks to dedicated veterinary care, plenty of rest, and the love of her foster family, Shasta has made a remarkable recovery and is now healthy, happy, and ready to begin the next chapter of her life.

Because Shasta recently had her puppy, she is currently available through our Foster-to-Adopt program. Her adoption will be finalized once she is medically cleared to be spayed.

Shasta is a more reserved girl who takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, she is happiest simply being by your side. She is very affectionate. She’s the kind of dog who forms a deep bond with her person and loves being part of your daily life. She rides well in the car. She enjoys playing ball and will bring it back. She also loves stuffed toys (thought they rarely survive intact!) We knew that she liked to play in the sprinklers...now we think she may be a swimmer! More to come.

Shasta prefers sleeping on the bed with her humans and enjoys a calm, predictable environment. She is not a fan of crates and would do best with a family that understands she prefers being part of the household rather than confined away from her people.

While she may do well with some dogs, Shasta is not a social butterfly and would likely appreciate slow introductions and a home that respects her need to settle in at her own pace.

Lolli is as sweet as her full name, Lollipop! If you’re looking for a loyal companion whose favorite place is simply by your side, Lolli may be your perfect match.

Whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood, working from home, a relaxing evening on the couch, or a weekend adventure, Lolli is happiest just being with her people. She has wonderful house manners—she’s housebroken, never counter surfs, doesn’t beg for food, takes treats with the gentlest mouth, and is respectful with toys. She’s also incredibly smart, and everyone at the vet comments on what a wonderful girl she is.

Currently living with three other Labs, Lolli has adapted beautifully to foster life and quickly learned the household routine. She knows sit, wait, here, up, come/heel and drop it, walks nicely on leash, enjoys car rides (especially when they end with a pup cup!), and absolutely loves meeting new people. While she can be a little cautious at first, she warms up quickly and soon becomes everyone’s best friend.

One of her cutest habits is when she gets excited—she sits up on her hind legs and circles her front paws like a little Ferris wheel. It’s guaranteed to make you smile!

Lolli has been learning how to share life with a pack after previously having her people all to herself. She’s doing wonderfully, but will continue to benefit from training, structure, and positive guidance. She’d thrive with confident, respectful dogs who match her easygoing energy and understand personal space. She isn’t a fan of overly pushy dogs and appreciates companions who enjoy both playtime and relaxing together.

If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate, well-mannered Lab who will happily be your shadow and best friend, Lolli is ready to steal your heart.
