Find a New Best Friend

We do NOT adopt to homes in Southern California or out of state with the exception of the Reno/Tahoe area.  Please see our Resources page for other California Labrador Retriever rescues. We update the list of available dogs as adoptions occur and as new dogs arrive, so please keep checking for the latest information.  All dogs listed below are still available unless otherwise noted.  If you would like to adopt from CCLRR, please go to the Adopt page to read about our adoption process. All dogs are tested prior to entering our program, however you will want to introduce your dog before adopting. Shelters do not test with cats and not all foster homes have cats so if a bio does not specifically say "Cat Friendly," we do not know and a proper introduction is recommended. Please check our Courtesy Postings as well!

🐱 Ignores Cats

From Merced County Shelter

Meet SpongeBob, 9 years young!

When his beloved owner passed away, he found himself alone in a shelter — and we just couldn’t leave him there. We are currently waiting on his DNA results to see if there’s any Lab hiding in that handsome face.

SpongeBob is a true gentleman. He is mellow, gentle and easy-going. He walks beautifully on leash, doesn’t bark on walks, and enjoys greeting new friends with soft tail wags. He’s the perfect co-pilot — windows down, breeze in his fur, living his best life. He’ll lounge with you on the couch, rest at your feet at a restaurant, and politely ask for belly rubs by leaning back and giving the sweetest look. He even knows how to open doors with his nose + paw — saving you the effort like the thoughtful butler he is.

He loves brushing and blow-drying after baths (his coat is silky soft). He is 44 lbs and working towards ~40 lbs for an ideal healthy weight — just a little tune-up to keep his steps springy for more adventures. SpongeBob can’t wait to meet his forever person or family. If you’re looking for calm, loving, soulful, low-maintenance companionship — this is your guy.

👧 Good with Kids

Surrendered to Stanislaus County Shelter

Aurora Rose is as beautiful and bright as her name! This affectionate, happy girl loves her people and thrives on companionship. She’ll greet you each morning with tail wags and is overjoyed when her humans come home. Aurora Rose is housebroken, trustworthy when left alone, and gets along well with both dogs and cats. She enjoys her walks and has a wonderful enthusiasm for the outdoors — but she’s also a strong girl who’s still learning leash manners. Her ideal adopter will be someone patient and confident who can continue her leash training and help her practice calm walking.

She has a great appetite (needs soft food), loves water, and is a champion napper. At night, she sleeps soundly and happily curls up for snuggles if invited onto the couch. Aurora Rose would do best in a calm home without too many neighboring dog distractions — just a peaceful space where she can feel safe and continue to blossom. If you’re looking for a loving companion who’s eager to learn and ready to share her heart, Aurora Rose is waiting to meet you.

👧 Good with Kids

From Kern County Shelter

Meet Joey, the sweetest little shadow you’ll ever meet! This gentle boy was found abandoned with his brothers, but he hasn’t let that stop him from blossoming into a loving, loyal companion. Joey has a soft, quiet presence and loves to be near his people. He rarely barks, he's a quiet and observant soul. He rides well in the car.  He plays well with other dogs and has been great with kids in his foster home. He’s still a puppy, so he’s learning the ropes — especially when it comes to house training and gentle play (he’s in his adorable baby shark teething phase). He’s very smart and takes direction easily, especially with a consistent routine and treats. He knows sit, wait, come, paw and working on drop it.

Joey enjoys enrichment toys, snuffle balls, frozen treats, and cuddling up near his people. He sleeps soundly through the night in his crate if you’re nearby, and he loves having a cozy little “den” to curl up in. This boy is ready to bond deeply with his forever family. He would thrive with another friendly dog or a family who will continue his gentle guidance, routine, and love. If you’re looking for a sweet, easy-going pup with a big heart and even bigger potential — Joey is your guy.

Blossom 10-26-25 (3)_edited.jpg

Blossom is a sweet, playful, and athletic 1+ year-old female Black Lab mix who originally came from the Kern County Animal Shelter with her litter of puppies. Now that her babies are safe, this beautiful girl is ready for her own forever family. She’s a happy, affectionate dog who loves to please her humans and is already well on her way with basic obedience. She rides well in the car, walks nicely on leash. Blossom is good with other dogs but particularly loves larger dog companions and she is best with children 10 yrs or older or confident handlers (she’s a happy, slightly mouthy teen).. She is playful, athletic and fun loving. Blossom is learning to control her excitement (like little happy jumps!) and responds beautifully to treats, praise, and routines. She would thrive with continued structure + affection — and will reward you with endless loyalty, joy, and cuddles.

Blossom is ready to blossom in a home where she can continue to learn, play, and cuddle. If you’ve been looking for an all-around great family dog to grow with, she’s your girl.

From Solano County Shelter

Luna is a gentle 8-year-old Lab who came to us as a stray. She arrived with some skin issues, but with a little TLC she’s healing beautifully and showing off her sweet, affectionate personality. She’s everything you’d hope for in a mature Lab—calm, easygoing, and devoted. Luna enjoys naps, being close to her person, and of course, a good game of fetch. Most of all, she just loves being petted and adored.

This lovely girl has excellent house manners, uses a dog door, and can be trusted alone in the house. She walks nicely on leash, gets along well with other dogs, and doesn’t react to cats or birds on walks. Luna does have a mild larynx issue that’s easily managed with an elevated slow feeder and softened food. With this setup, she’s been doing wonderfully.

At about 75 lbs, Luna is tall but lean, and she fit right into her foster home from day one. She’s ready to do the same in her forever home!

Meet Bowie — the ultimate cuddle bug!

Bowie is a 5-month-old, 36 lb yellow Labrador pup with a heart as bright as his coat. This sweet boy wants to be right by your side and be part of the family action — if you’re looking for a loyal shadow and the best snuggle buddy, Bowie’s your guy!

Bowie is almost housebroken. He does great with routine and going outside with his humans! Bowie loves playing with toys and thinks fetch is mostly about the chase (we’re still working out the “bring it back” part 😄). He enjoys playful puppy games with his husky foster brother and is eager to learn. He’s affectionate, goofy, and loves being part of family time.

If you’re ready for a loving, playful, happy-hearted pup who will fill your days with joy, laughter, and snuggles — Bowie would love to meet you!

👧 Good with Kids

From Kern County Shelter

Ralph is a 4-year-old, 67lb black Lab mix who came to us from Kern County and is now being fostered in Rescue, CA. He was surrendered through no fault of his own — and now he’s ready for a fresh start. 💛

This boy is an absolute sweetheart. Ralph is gentle, cuddly, and calm. He loves children, enjoys other dogs, and welcomes just about anyone he meets (cats are still unknown). In the home, he’s super easy — he settles so nicely that you might forget he’s even there! He walks nicely on leash, knows basic commands, comes when called and is an A+ car riding buddy.

Ralph enjoys daily walks, and he especially loves being near his people. Left for short periods he does fine, but after a few hours he may find a bit of creative entertainment. He sleeps happily on his dog bed, though he would be thrilled to share yours if invited!

There truly isn’t a bad thing to say about this guy — he’s loving, loyal, quiet, and oh-so-sweet. Ralph is the total package and deserves a family who will adore him right back.
