Fighting To Save Charlie

UPDATE - 5/11/26

Charlie continues to do so well, and we are incredibly proud of the progress he’s making every single day.

Today, Charlie and his very first foster mom Heather — along with his honorary foster grandma — headed to VCA Sacramento for evaluation and bloodwork. Thankfully, all of his bloodwork checked out okay and everyone there loved him and gave him such great care!

His symptoms still seem most consistent with some kind of traumatic brain injury, but the truth is we just don’t know exactly what caused this — whether it was a car accident, a vascular event, or something else entirely. A tumor is still technically on the list of possibilities, though it’s hard to imagine we would be seeing this kind of steady improvement without treatment if that were the case.

No matter what, Charlie continues to astound us. From not being able to eat, drink, or walk normally just days ago… to now wanting to interact, rest comfortably, and continue improving — this sweet boy is fighting hard.

Right now our job is simple: love on him, keep him calm, and prevent jumping or strenuous activity while his little brain and body heal. Thankfully, Charlie is being the very best patient and is complying with his “doctor’s orders” beautifully. He is content to lay down and hang out with his foster kids for some fresh air and when he gets restless or too active he loves to snooze in his crate where he’s gets restful sleep and snores like a freight train!

We are so grateful for every donation, share, kind message, and well wishes that continue to come in. This community truly makes it possible for us to say “yes” to dogs like Charlie and continue pursuing the care they deserve.

As we move toward a neurology consult and potentially an MRI (estimated around $7,000 due to the need for sedation), we appreciate your continued support more than we can say.

It truly takes a village, and we feel incredibly blessed to have this one.  Home>
