The Labrador Retriever is considered to be a sporting breed. Labs were bred to retrieve game, such as ducks, that was shot by hunters. They get along well with people because they were bred to work with people. They are hard working, energetic dogs that need plenty of exercise and lots of love. Labs are happiest living inside the house with their family. Many labs feel that they are oversized lap dogs. Labs have a tendency to love food and easily become overweight if they don't get the proper amount of exercise.
Labrador Retrievers are normally be 21 to 24 inches tall and weigh 55 to 80 pounds although we get all shapes and sizes of labs in rescue.
Labs come in three colors: yellow, chocolate and black. Yellow labs
normally have a black nose and brown eyes but sometimes have lighter
noses and eyes, chocolate labs normally have a brown nose and brown
or green eyes, and black labs normally have a black nose and brown
eyes.
Labs excel at many activities. You can see labs not only
hunting but also doing obedience work, search and rescue work, agility,
flyball, frisbee and many other activities.
